Bucks County Transportation Management Association

Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo spearheaded the first transportation management association in Bucks County. His vision, along with his colleagues is to improve transportation by fostering partnerships among state, county and local governments and the Bucks County business community. The association is designed to promote and coordinate travel demand management strategies to reduce peak-hour traffic congestion and serve as a clearinghouse for transportation policies and programs.
BENEFITS TO GENERAL PUBLIC
- Provide up-to-date road and work construction advisories
- Offer a library of information providing transportation-oriented news clips, regulations, correspondence, speeches, etc
- Conduct public travel surveys, provide access to commuter travel needs and recommend changes in transit routing
- Reduce congestion through goods-movement management, off-hours shipping, roadwork updates and minimizing construction disruption
- Promote the advantages of utilizing high-occupancy vehicles through priority parking locations and reduce parking rates
- Raise political support and matching funds for transportation projects
- Recommend land-use policies to improve transit access
- Publish a regular, comprehensive newsletter on transportation issues
- Host seminars to discuss and educate the public about transportation
TO EMPLOYERS
- Serve as a transportation advocate, on behalf of its members, before regulating agencies and governmental bodies. The Bucks County TMA is the early warning system to alert members of pending legislation and rules
- Provide motivational programs to encourage employee car/van pooling and the use of park-and-ride facilities
- Study staggered start and quit times for local companies
- Encourage employers to adjust work schedules to accommodate ride-sharing initiatives
- Study parking management strategies for member companies
TO INDIVIDUALS
- Provides assistance in arranging car pools, ride-sharing and use of the park-and-ride facilities
- Develops transportation centers where drivers can park and transfer to various modes of transportation
- Contracts with vendors to provide van pools and provide buses for people traveling to and between multiple sites
- Provides access to off-peak transportation services for senior citizens
